10 things to know before you visit Mykonos

Posted on December 7, 2022December 9, 2022

Here are a few things to know before visiting Mykonos:

  1. Mykonos is a popular tourist destination in Greece, known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife, and charming white-washed houses.
  2. The best time to visit Mykonos is from April to October, when the weather is warm and sunny. The peak season is from July to August, when the island is busiest and most expensive.
  3. Mykonos has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The average temperature in the summer is around 25-30 degrees Celsius (77-86 degrees Fahrenheit), while in the winter it is around 15-20 degrees Celsius (59-68 degrees Fahrenheit).
  4. Mykonos is located in the Cyclades islands, in the Aegean Sea. The nearest airport is Mykonos Airport, which is located about 4 km (2.5 miles) from the main town, Chora.
  5. The official language in Mykonos is Greek, but many locals speak English, especially in the tourist areas.
  6. The currency in Mykonos is the Euro. Credit cards are widely accepted, but it is a good idea to have some cash on hand for smaller purchases and in case of emergencies.
  7. Mykonos is known for its vibrant nightlife, with many clubs, bars, and live music venues. However, noise restrictions are in place, so be prepared for music to stop playing at certain times.
  8. The island has many beautiful beaches, but most of them are crowded during the peak season. If you want to avoid the crowds, consider visiting one of the more secluded beaches, such as Agios Sostis Beach or Fokos Beach.
  9. Mykonos is a relatively safe destination, but it is always a good idea to be cautious and aware of your surroundings, especially at night. Keep an eye on your belongings, avoid walking alone in deserted areas, and be mindful of potential scams.
  10. Mykonos is a wonderful destination for couples, families, and solo travelers alike. It offers a variety of activities and attractions to suit all interests and budgets, so you are sure to have a great time on the island.
